10 inch Traditional Indian Desk Gong
$109.99
A beautifully handcrafted traditional gong with an open, expressive resonance for meditation, sound healing, ritual, and mindful listening.
The 10" Traditional Gong, also known as a Wind Gong or Sun Gong, is a completely handmade and handcrafted instrument made from Ancient Traditional Metal Alloy. Each gong is created entirely from scratch by hand throughout the process, with the metal carefully shaped, worked, hammered, finished, and refined by skilled artisans.
With its open profile and naturally expressive surface, the Wind Gong produces a bright, expansive resonance with shimmering overtones and evolving layers of sound. The compact 10-inch size makes it especially suited to personal sound practices, intimate meditation spaces, treatment rooms, and smaller studios.
Gongs have a long history across Asian musical and ceremonial traditions, including India, where suspended bronze gongs have been used in religious, musical, and procession settings. Historical references include traditional Indian gong forms used in South Indian ritual contexts and depictions of suspended gongs in medieval Indian temple art.
This modern 10-inch format brings that enduring tradition into a versatile instrument for contemporary sound practice. Use it on its own or alongside singing bowls, tuning forks, bells, chimes, and other instruments.

The 10-inch Traditional Gong has an open, lively sound that responds quickly to the touch of the mallet. Its resonance can begin with a clear, focused tone before opening into delicate layers of vibration and shimmering overtones.
The character of the sound changes depending on where the gong is played and how much energy is introduced. Gentle strokes can reveal subtle, airy textures, while broader strikes can create a fuller and more animated resonance.
Its smaller diameter makes this gong particularly beautiful for close-range listening. Rather than dominating an entire room, it can become an intimate part of a soundscape, allowing the listener to notice the changing layers of the resonance.
The 10-inch format is also an approachable size for anyone beginning to explore gong playing while still offering plenty of room to develop different techniques.

How to Use
Suspend the gong securely from a suitable point using a strong hanging material of your choice.
For a natural, understated setup, you can hang the gong yourself using 100% unbleached cotton thread. Other options include rope, cotton cord, twine, leather cord, or another sturdy suspension material appropriate for securely supporting the gong.
The gong can be suspended from a wall, ceiling point, wooden beam, frame, or other secure structure. Make sure your chosen suspension point and hanging material are appropriate for the weight of the gong before use.
Using a suitable gong mallet, begin with a gentle strike toward the outer area of the gong. Allow the resonance to develop fully before striking again.
Experiment with different areas of the surface and vary the pressure of your playing. Softer strokes can bring out delicate, shimmering tones, while broader strokes can create a fuller and more expansive sound.
For meditation, allow the resonance to become your point of focus as it gradually fades. The gong can also be incorporated into sound baths, yoga, breathwork, meditation, energy-focused practices, and layered sound healing sessions.
