Ancient Therapy Singing Bowl - Rare Traditional Himalayan Sound Healing Bowl

$660.00

A rare traditional and ancient Therapy Singing Bowl with an exceptionally deep, rounded, OM-like resonance and extraordinary sustain, created for practitioners who work with traditional sound healing, meditation, Nada practices, and vibrational sound work.

The Traditional Therapy Singing Bowl is one of the most distinctive bowls in a traditional Himalayan sound-healing collection. Unlike chakra-specific bowls designed around a particular frequency and energetic theme, the Therapy Bowl is valued for its deep, full-bodied voice, complex harmonics, versatility, and unusually long resonance. It is the kind of bowl that can become a central instrument in a practitioner's sound-healing practice.

Its sound is characteristically deep and rounded, often carrying an OM-like tonal quality that develops gradually after the initial strike and continues through a long, sustained resonance. A high-quality Therapy Bowl can continue vibrating for more than a minute, with exceptional bowls sometimes sustaining beyond 90 seconds under suitable playing conditions.

The bowl has a particularly important place within traditional sound-healing practice because it is not limited to one chakra, one frequency, or one type of session. It can be incorporated into opening rituals, meditation, body-based sound work, transitions, sound baths, OM meditation, Nada Yoga practices, relaxation sessions, and closing rituals.

Each bowl is handmade from raw material through a demanding process of heating, shaping, forming, refining, finishing, and tuning. Rather than being produced as a standardized mass-manufactured instrument, the bowl is worked and adjusted repeatedly by skilled artisans. Its final thickness, weight, shape, rim, tonal response, resonance, and sustain are developed through thousands of hands-on adjustments.

Crafted from Ancient Traditional Metal Alloy, the Therapy Bowl belongs to the traditional metal singing-bowl family and has a sound character fundamentally different from modern crystal or electronically generated sound instruments. Its appeal lies in the interaction between its physical construction, metal composition, shape, and complex acoustic response.

The Therapy Bowl is not defined by a single chakra frequency. Instead, its purpose is its broad application within sound practice—making it a particularly valuable instrument for practitioners who want one exceptionally resonant bowl that can move through different stages of a traditional session.

The Therapy Bowl does not follow the seven-frequency chakra system used for our chakra singing bowls.

Instead, it is valued for its deep fundamental tone, layered harmonics, long sustain, and OM-like character.

For practitioners, this makes the Therapy Bowl particularly versatile. It can be introduced at different points in a session without requiring the practitioner to remain within one specific frequency or chakra framework.

The Therapy Bowl sits outside this seven-bowl frequency sequence. Its strength is its versatility rather than chakra assignment.

Its deep, rounded sound can be used to establish the sonic environment of a session, support sustained listening, create transitions between practices, or provide a resonant foundation for meditation.

A Sound Rich in Harmonics & Overtones

A traditional singing bowl does not produce only one simple frequency.

Its physical shape and metal construction create a complex acoustic response containing a fundamental tone together with additional harmonics and overtones. These layers contribute to the distinctive character of a traditional bowl.

The result can feel much richer than a single electronically generated tone.

With a Therapy Bowl, these acoustic layers are especially noticeable because of its deep voice and extended sustain. As the initial sound settles, different components of the resonance can become more apparent to the listener.

This evolving sound is an important part of traditional singing-bowl practice: the experience is not simply the moment the bowl is struck, but the entire progression from sound into silence.

Crafted Through Thousands of Hands-On Adjustments

A traditional Therapy Bowl begins with raw material.

It is then heated, shaped, formed, refined, finished, and acoustically adjusted through repeated stages of skilled craftsmanship.

The artisan works with the physical properties of the metal throughout the process. Thickness, weight, curvature, rim, proportions, and overall form all influence the eventual sound.

The bowl may pass through many stages and many hands before it reaches its final form.

Thousands of individual adjustments can contribute to the finished instrument.

This is why no two traditionally crafted bowls are perfectly identical.

The final result is an individual acoustic instrument with its own voice, resonance, harmonic profile, and sustain.

Sound, Meditation & the Science

Research into singing bowls is growing, although the scientific evidence is still developing.

A 2025 systematic review published in Integrative Medicine Research examined 19 clinical studies from eight countries and found reported potential benefits associated with singing-bowl interventions across areas including anxiety, depression, sleep quality, cognitive measures, and physiological outcomes. The authors also emphasized the heterogeneity of the available research and the need for further high-quality studies.

A separate 2025 systematic review in Healthcare examined 14 quantitative studies of Tibetan singing-bowl interventions and reported findings including reductions in anxiety and depression, improvements in wellbeing and quality of life, and changes in physiological measures such as heart rate and heart-rate variability. Again, the authors noted important methodological limitations and heterogeneity.

Earlier research has also explored physiological responses to singing-bowl meditation. A 2014 quantitative study involving 51 participants found that a singing-bowl intervention before a relaxation exercise was associated with greater reductions in systolic blood pressure and heart rate compared with silence.

These findings are promising, but they do not establish that a particular singing bowl can treat a medical condition or that one bowl is scientifically “stronger” or “more healing” than another.

The Therapy Bowl should therefore be understood as a traditional sound and meditation instrument, with its value grounded in craftsmanship, acoustic qualities, practitioner experience, and its role within intentional sound practices.

How to Use

For OM Meditation:
Use the bowl's deep, rounded resonance as an acoustic reference before or between OM / AUM vocalizations.

For Sound Healing:
Introduce the Therapy Bowl at the beginning of a session, during transitions, or as a central resonant instrument. Allow sufficient time between strikes for the full sustain to develop.

For Nada Yoga:
Use the bowl as an external sound for focused listening and contemplative awareness, gradually directing attention toward increasingly subtle aspects of the sound.

For Sound Baths:
The long sustain can provide a continuous-feeling sonic layer that complements other traditional instruments.

For Closing a Session:
A final, slowly fading resonance can provide a natural transition from active sound work back into silence.
